Surprise! There's a song about Evangeline?!

"Matthew Sweet's 1990 album Girlfriend featured a song titled Evangeline, sung from the point of view of the character Johnny Six."

I was skeptical when I first read that line from the Evangeline wikipedia article.

The name Evangeline just had to be a coincidence and fans had to of mis-interpreted the lyrics, right?

I hit the YouTubes first thing in the hope of finding a music video of Mathew Sweet's Evangeline:

Great performance, but after watching/listening to the video a few times I was still leaning towards the idea that this song didn't have a thing to do with the Evangeline comic.

However, Google proved me sooo wrong on this:

'Evangeline' is based on a space-age nun from an obscure comic book. She has this thief sidekick named Johnny Six, who really lusts after her but can't have her," says Matthew Sweet, dispelling rumours that his album Girlfriend is autobiographical.

I'm still kind of weirded out by this, though, I can't wait to surprise Judith with this. :)

I'm going to contact Mr. Sweet and offer him a nice piece of original comic art from Jonny Six's first appearance in Evangeline. It's the best that I can do to thank him for creating such an awesome song about Evangeline and Jonny Six.
